California Minimum Wage IncreaseSo minimum wage has increased by a buck in the California. Under Schwarzenegger's proposal, the hourly wage would increase from $6.75 to $7.25 in September 2006 and to $7.75 in July 2007.What does this mean? It means that Rosy over at Robeks still can't afford housing on her own... it also gives all the capitalist pricks a good reason to increase their prices. Gas goes up, prices go up. Minimum wage goes up, prices go up. The wind blows, prices go up. Any and every excuse to squeeze more profit from the consumer. Now speaking of squeeze... the other day I go to Robeks looking for my daily vitamin intake because God knows I'm too lazy to shop or cook for myself. I order from their great selection then notice that they have increased their prices. Not by a nickel.. not a dime... but a whopping 36 cents!!! On a $5 drink, you may as well kick me in the nuts. Even Starbucks and Coffee Bean have the decency to only raise their prices .5 cents to 'offset' their stockholders needs to buy more Ivory back scratchers... Just under a year ago, Robeks jumped their prices from, $4.95 - to $4.99.. now again they increase to $5.35??? In under 12 months they raised their prices 40 cents... per drink!! That's an embarrassingly high %. It's not as if there aren't 1200 more power smoothies shops to chose from. Let's say this particular Robeks has 10 employees. That's an extra $10/hr they have to pay. They are open 12 hours... so they are now paying an extra $120 a day... Still with me... now let's say Robeks sells 100 drinks a day (minimum). Since the price increase, that's $360 extra per day, every day. The point to the rudimentary math is to illustrate that the cost increase per customer is way off kilter. And that there is in fact a price point that breaks the customers will to continue being gauged. So you may want to look into increasing the prices again to offset the loss of this customer.
