Getting Older

It's a sobering thought when you remember that you graduated University 10 years ago, spent well over $40 000 on weed...and still you have no freakin' idea of, what you want to do when you get older.

Then it dawns on you that you are older. Numerically speaking you are in your 30's, but for some reason you are still thinking like a child.

You still love the smell of your farts, and crack the same jokes with your friends, but now instead of 30 years to make your million, you now have about 15.

As cold sweat drips down your forehead, you frantically count and recount the years until retirement... holy shit, where has all the time gone?... and the money... at an average salary of $600 a week, there's no money. You've spent it on your pathetic life.

You've spent it on your one bedroom apartment, your chronic habit, concert tickets and trips. There's no savings... how the hell does anyone live a decent social life, pay bills, stay out of debt AND put money away...enough to actually pay for your dream home, retirement, kid's college...

Just as you begin to suffocate at the thought of your dismal financial situation, you realize that time is now moving faster than it ever has.

Time is relative. Actually, everything is relative...anyway, our childhood memories bring upon images of never ending staircases, unreachable door knobs and slow, boring, long school years.

When we get older, we can only dream of 9 month work years and doors we can't or shouldn't open. But, we open all of them, expose everything and before you know it...15 years until retirement...

As unreachable objects and never ending time grow smaller and quicker, we find ourselves racing to catch up with everything we have missed.

As a young punk, you sit around on your ass wasting time because time is yours to waste. There is nobody else in the world but you...so do what you want. You stay a punk, angry at the world wishing you were a grown up...

When you get older, time is no longer yours. It's spent on the stairmaster, shopping for two, driving to your kid's soccer game, trying to make a million...keeping your boss off your back. It's spent on everyone and everything else but you.

What am I getting at? I lost track... Oh right, don't spend your youth wishing you were older... inevitably you'll be older...yes, wishing you were younger.
