Music Review

Saturday December 23rd, 2006
It is a well established fact that I'm a bit of an idiot. Well, here's another one for the books... 23 years later, I clue into the fact that Rush is an incredible band.

A few months back, I picked up, Exit Stage Left. I remember seeing the album in my sister's collection and always playing the same tracks; Closer To The Heart, Free Will and Tom Sawyer.

While they are still awesome songs, I finally listened to the entire album, cover to cover. WOW.

Now I'm sure there is a re mastered version of this gem somewhere.. there always seems to be, but the original standard recording isn't loud enough. Why do my speakers only go to 10? Why not 11? The vocals are a bit lost and tough to hear but I guess that's to be expected with Neil Peart behind you.

Maybe it was the childish rebellious side in me that closed my heart to Rush... It's like, not routing for the home team... so you can look cool.

Much like spicy foods where most kids have to establish a taste - Rush their sound and lyrics also takes time and maturity to understand and appreciate. They're like a fine wine.

Exit Stage Left is just on of Rush's great albums in their endless fantasy filled catalog.

I am aghast that I missed them this past tour... but hey, I have their new DVD to warm up to. Yeah for me!!!

Now, when people inevitably ask, "Oh, you're Canadian, Do you Like Rush?"

I can answer with a smile..."yeah 23 years later..."
