Hooolyyy shit. I'm not often a horror fan, but horror-comedy where they lure you in with genuinely funy shit before the horror comes works quite perfectly in "Severance." This one follows a group of office workers that are on a little office trip-holiday to a remote luxury cabin in the woods of Eastern Europe. Little do they know, their company sold weapons to the army that put some prisoners of war away in these parts, prisoners who were opposition soldiers that took a bit too much liking to the torturing and killing of the villagers. Bla bla bla, backstory backstory, typical "ooh, guess what once happened here" horror jargon, but man oh man do the performances, dialogue, and every other damn thing make this one stick out.
It could've worked as a comedy about some paranoid office dorks if the bad guys never showed up, but they do, and the horror half doesn't disappoint. Can't bother you with the rest, all that can be said is "Severance" is solid entertainment for anyone - they can say they don't like horror, they can say they hate English humor (it's not English humor, by the way, it's just the kind that makes you laugh and is smart by all standards, plus a hot American babe leads the cast - if you recall the hot hick chick from "The Faculty," she's aged fine), they can say whatever, but this is a sure bet to not bore you on DVD night.
