Seeing as how this flick can be summed up in one word, ODD, this review's gonna be shorter than the norm. Basically, it's worth seeing, because it's entertaining and you've never seen anything like it before (trust me).

For those of you who have been enlightened by the English-dubbed version of auteur Stephen Chow's "Shaolin Soccer," don't go into this one expecting to laugh like before.

While "Soccer" was simply one of the most incredibly cool comedies in the history of mankind, this one's more action oriented, but make no mistake, huge laughs do sneak up on you and bite you in the ass hard enough to leave marks. That's simply the brilliance of Stephen Chow, who's well on his way to being realized as one of the most original creative voices of our time -- he can tug on your heartstrings while making you laugh your ass off at the character's expense and drop your jaw at the action sequence you're in the middle of (simultaneously).

Unlike noble attempts like "Shaun of the Dead", in which someone shedding genuine tears over their dead mother and then cracking a joke and shooting a zombie comes off rather awkward, the mixture of genres in this flick blows over quite gracefully. Even though the laughs are missed once the action takes over, they aren't forgotten, nor are they too seriously mourned. The action rocks.
