Movie Review

Thursday July 30th, 2009
The film's run time is about 2 hours and 20 minutes...2 hours too long.  Of course there are funny moments.  It has a great cast, even I can't stand Seth Rogan.  How the hell did he win the lottery?  No doubt he asks himself that question everyday.  Anyway - the premise: Adam Sandler is a rich successful comedian (in the movie) he plays a guy, George Simmons.  He finds out he has a rare blood disease and my die.  He meets up with Ira (Seth Rogan) and asks him to be his comedy writer blah blah.  The first hour of the movie is just fine, but then it just kinda dribbles away trying to cover too many subjects.

Apatow of course does a great job as producer and this is his most personal film yet.  But I think he over stretched himself with this one.  He has a knack for mixing funny with serious, but this one feel kinda flat, sometimes even kinda awkward.  If they shaved off 40 minutes it could have been better.  Much like this review...  Don't go see it if you're 18-25.  If you're over 40 then sure, I guess.

Like most Sandler and Aptow flicks, it has a great soundtrack which includes tunes from Warren Zevon (Keep Me In Your Heart) and a really pretty "Real Love" a John Lennon rarity covered be Sandler - who performs it in the movie with Ryan Adams.
