I am a sophomore in high school. I really like this girl who Im pretty good friends with, and I asked her to see a movie with me. She said yes, but then later asked me if it was a date. I said it could be but if she didn't want it to be I'd still like to go (which was true).

She said yes but just as friends. We went and had a pretty good time, but only as friends. What should I do? I really like her, but I if she doesn't like me back, I still want to be friends with her.

We've known each other since elementary school,but we've only been good friends for a few months.  We're share a few classes, and we usually hang out during free periods, but not so much outside school.  In fact, this time with her at the movies was the first time we were hanging out alone outside school. 

I really don't know what to do.  I really like her, but I don't want things to get awkward since I want to stay friends with her if things don't work out.

You don't have to worry about things not working out because you probably won't ever date her. I know that makes your heart twinge a little, but it hurts less to know now instead of desiring someone who won't give back. I handle rejection by eating powdered sugar cookies in mass quantities in my car and crying. I encourage you to let the fantasy go. When you figure out how, tell me so I can stop cutting myself.

On the off chance that she's scared, or wants to know you better before dating, you can stay cool. Be friends and it will reveal itself. You told her it was a date if she wanted it, so she knows now.
